On Monday, November 24th, 2014 volunteers from Turkish Cultural Center of Pennsylvania (TCCPENN) joined forces with Harrisburg mayor Mr. Eric Papenfuse to help some of the poorest families of the city. Mayor Papenfuse and volunteers went knocking door to door, and distributed 60 turkeys and 30 boxes of food. Volunteers and members of Turkish Cultural Center of Pennsylvania donated food items and prepared food boxes to be distributed alongside with turkeys.
As Thanksgiving comes close most American families prepare to celebrate it by cooking plenty of food, including the traditional turkey meal and sharing it with family members and friends. Many families of low income cannot afford to celebrate it according to the traditions. Members of Turkish Cultural Center of Pennsylvania in accordance with TCCPENN’s mission and vision volunteered their time and money to reach out to some of the neediest families in Harrisburg city.
